ITC State-Pioneer Transmission Line Project Update (Updated May 17th)

May 17 2019: This post was updated with new information from ITC Michigan


ITC Michigan, through its ITC Transmission subsidiary, is constructing approximately three miles of 120,000 volt (120kV) double-circuit transmission line to connect the State and Pioneer substations. This project supports electric reliability and increases capacity in the Ann Arbor area. Construction began in late 2018 and will take approximately eight months.

ITC has given me the following updates for May/June 2019:


Week of May 13:

  • Matting will begin on structures south and north of I-94

  • Foundations will be placed south and north of I-94

  • Structure framing/installation begins

  • No traffic control proposed


Week of May 20: (this status was updated May 17th)

  • Matting will begin south and north of Eisenhower Parkway - also north of Ann Arbor Public Schools building between Ann Arbor Railroad and S. State Street

  • Foundations will be placed south and north of I-94

  • Structure framing/installation begins

  • No traffic control proposed


Week of May 27: (this status was updated May 17th)

  • All matting completed

  • Foundations will be placed south and north of Eisenhower Parkway

  • Structure framing/installation begins

  • No traffic control proposed


Week of June 3: (this status was updated May 17th)

  • All matting completed

  • Foundations will be placed further north of Eisenhower Parkway between Boardwalk Drive and Ann Arbor Railroad - also north of Ann Arbor Public Schools building between Ann Arbor Railroad and S. State Street

  • Structure framing/installation begins

  • No traffic control proposed
